This 1-day, interactive course uses trained actors and real-life scenarios to equip you with the practical skills to have challenging conversations with staff, parents and caregivers and others that access your school. Throughout this interactive course, you will explore key concepts and practical techniques for managing emotions, promoting active listening, and fostering empathy and how to prepare for, initiate and manage a challenging conversation.

The morning session focuses on the theory and framework of difficult conversations and the in the afternoon we allow you to apply the practical framework and practice your difficult conversations with trained actors. This practical application means you will leave the course with skills you can implement immediately.

This course suits a very wide range of school/college-based staff including headteachers, deputy headteachers, teachers, business managers, site managers, family support workers, SENCO/ALNCO, special education teachers, pastoral teachers or support, bursars, school PAs, safeguarding leads, school governors, education welfare officers, supervisors, receptionists, local authority staff and multidisciplinary teams.

Trainers 

Clare Edmondson (Director of Changing Behaviour UK Ltd, therapeutic intervention practitioner for ASC students) has taught and led in a variety of settings over her twenty year career. She has worked and led in mainstream provisions, Pupil Referral Units, Mental Health services and Autism provisions. She has also worked as an adoption and fostering specialist trainer. Clare is also a trainee counsellor and completing her level 4 diploma in counselling. more ->
